1999 Top 10 Welcome to our Heritage Perennials 1999 Top 10 List! Our plants are chosen from over 1500 varieties we grow and from the many hundreds of new varieties introduced, discovered, or sometimes rediscovered every year! Some of these plants are time-proven classics which have a place in every garden. Some are exciting new varieties we think will become classics in the future. Others are simply interesting or cool plants we just got excited about and want to share with our many gardening friends. Wherever you garden in North America, you should be successful with some or most of these varieties! You can still look for these Top 10 plants at your local independent Heritage Perennial dealer this spring, and happy gardening!  1999 Top 10 Heritage Perennials #1      Lysimachia punctata 'Alexander' (Variegated Yellow Loosetrife)   A recent arrival from England, this puts on an outstanding foliage display. The green leaves, boldly edged with cream are tinged with pink in spring. #2      Corydalis flexuosa 'Pere David' (Blue Corydalis)   Electric blue flowers appear early in spring and again in fall if pruned back after first flowers fade. #3      Euphorbia x martinii (Martin's Spurge)   An excellent, naturally occurring hybrid of E. amygdaloides and E. characias with handsome purple stems and bright green flowers. #4      Rudbeckia fulgida 'Goldsturm' (Goldstorm Coneflower)   A favourite classic, this has an extremely long season of bloom. Perennial Plant Association's "Plant of the Year" for 1999. #5      Iris sibirica 'Silver Edge' (Siberian Iris)   Large sky-blue flowers, edged in silver are born above strong clumps of grassy leaves that remain attractive all season. #6      Cimicifuga simplex 'Brunette' (Black Bugbane)   This almost-black plant has been sought after for years. A significant production breakthrough has made it more available (and more affordable) this year. #7      Campanula persicifolia 'Chettle Charm' (Peachleaf Bellflower)   Brand new in N. America, this selection has pale porcelain-blue flowers, edged in darker violet-blue. #8      Geranium 'Pink Spice' (Dwarf Cranesbill Geranium)   Developed in New Zealand this brand new Geranium hybrid was selected for its flower and foliage colour and long flowering habit. Masses of bright pink flowers appear in profusion from spring to early autumn, standing out against the bronze foliage. Exclusively available in Canada through Heritage Perennials. #9      Geranium phaeum 'Samobor' (Mourning Widow Cranesbill)   Striking purple-black zoning on the foliage provides the perfect compliment to the deep burgundy flowers. #10      Hosta 'Patriot' (Hosta)   Truly one of the best new variegated forms around. Medium-green leaves are widely edged in white, with streaks towards the centre.
